Our Story

The journey of Pure Bliss from its beginning until now ...

N&A behind counter.jpg

The Pure Bliss story begins with an energetic young woman, a psychology degree at Western and a whole lot of small batch desserts!

Once upon a time, there was a girl who simply loved to bake!

Long before there was a shop, a menu, or a line out the door, there was Andi - baking late into the evening after long days of studying and work. Andi moved to Bellingham to study Psychology at Western Washington University. She then began a career in organizational development - yet no matter how full the day was, she still came home and baked.

Every night.

She baked cakes for coworkers’ birthdays, cookies for neighbors “just because,” cupcakes for book club ... if there was something to celebrate (or even if there wasn’t) ... Andi showed up with dessert in hand! Baking was her way of creating something simple but meaningful: a little moment of joy to share with others.

Over time, that quiet passion became harder to ignore. What started as a creative outlet began to feel like something more. So Andi took a leap - starting small by renting a commercial kitchen in Bellingham and personally delivering preordered desserts.

Turns out, a lot of people really liked Andi’s desserts.

In fact, the community liked Andi’s desserts so much ... she decided to quit her day job. Andi worked hard and her partner did too (are we surprised they met in a grocery store line while she was purchasing baking supplies?). Before long, an opportunity came along to open a small brick-and-mortar shop on Cornwall Avenue.

With the help of her husband Nick, plus plenty of support from family and friends, they transformed the space in just three months ... on a very meager shoestring budget.

When the doors opened, Pure Bliss Desserts became exactly what they had hoped: a cozy little oasis filled with from-scratch desserts, locally roasted coffee, and a whole lot of heart.

The mission was simple: spread joy through incredible desserts, in a beautiful space, with exceptional service.

And the community showed up!

Over the years, the shop grew in the very best way. Organically! More team members, more customers, and more reasons to celebrate (which, of course, meant more desserts). While the request for desserts grew and grew ... the kitchen space did not. A growing dessert demand meant there was a real need to find a bigger space.

It was a good problem to have.

After a year-long search for a new downtown location, Andi and Nick were given the opportunity to purchase and reimagine the very building Pure Bliss called home on Cornwall.

They thoughtfully pondered the purchase together - between Nick’s firefighter shifts, Andi’s long days at the dessert shop ... all while raising two little ones! In life, their plate was full, so why not add more dessert space? Literally.

In 2019, that vision came to life with the help of an incredible local building and design team. The Pure Bliss expansion formed into a beautiful, refined version of the original dream. A space to grow, to create, and to gather yet still designed with the same purpose and care from the very beginning.

Today, the Pure Bliss team continues that tradition with intention and craftsmanship in every detail. Small-batch baking, from-scratch recipes, locally sourced ingredients, and time-honored techniques are all part of the process - because the little things matter.

With over 125 desserts in rotation (and around 50 in the case each day), there’s always something new to discover—and something familiar to come back to.

And through it all, Andi is still doing what she’s always done: baking with heart, sharing joy, and serving the community she loves.
